Keeping it all in tune...

Practicing on your instrument (often called “rehearsal” in stuffy intellectual circles) is the one element of music that nobody can escape.  Time spent on your skills and understanding produces increased proficiency and pleasure.  Time not spent reduces proficiency and pleasure.  Practice is not usually an issue until a person sets a goal for themselves (or your parents/teachers set one for you) and then you must work to achieve that goal.  Sorry, no exceptions.  The only way to get from where you are to where  you are going is to move in that direction.  Even in science fiction stories, people have to walk to the transporter platform.  Here are some tips to help the beginning student develop good practice habits.  (These tips are also helpful to advanced students who are too proud to admit that they need to practice, but realize that they too, need a little help.)
